Remembering Helen Lu Mama

Helen Lu Mama at CCYAA's Annual Banquet

The CCYAA was saddened to hear about the recent passing of long time supporter, Helen Lu (better known as Lu Mama).

Lu Mama was instrumental in helping CCYAA move from a basement operation (literally as you can see in the picture) to one that now services over 2,000 people in the community annually. She believed in us when nobody else did and was an advocate for our cause helping us reach key partners along the way.

She was an inspiration because she taught us, despite how old, how short, or how sick one was, the impact that a spirit with passion could have was unstoppable. Her impact on us, as well as countless other community groups was immeasurable and we are all suffering a great loss.

But if she has taught us anything, it’s that we must strive to be better citizens while we are still on this earth and to value those around us.  So although we mourn her passing, we should also be inspired by the legacy she has left behind and look to honour her by lending a helping hand to others.

Thank you Lu Mama and God Speed.
