I’m a big Raptor fan and no one can question me on my loyalty. I was there through the good and the bad. I was at the game when Glen Grunwald apologized to the crowd at the end of the season on how crappy we had been. I bleed Raptor Red.

I feel that I now have to play the part of Shakespeare’s fool and say something stupid, but might make sense à This entire business of “VC Sucks”. (Vince Carter for those of you that only watch Lacrosse)

Despite the universal truth that VC does suck, must we emphasize this point all the time? Does VC suck so much that it’s the second most popular chant after “Let’s go Raptors”? More importantly: does he really care? For me, it seems as if we’re acting a little irrational. I think that we, as Raptor fans, are acting like the ex-boyfriend who never got over his first love…

Yes, Vince Carter was our first girlfriend. He was that girl who grew up with us in the hood when things were bad and he was with us when we moved up north to Markham. The going was good until we fell out of love. Well, he fell out of love with us. He stopped trying, like wearing sweat pants whenever we took him out and he stopped putting on make up and foundation. Eventually, he left us for another man. Now, we’re acting like that guy who can’t get over it. We are like those people who go on Jenny Jones when the theme is stuff like “I was Not, now I’m Hot” or “I was a nerd, but look at me now!” Pretty much, the show is all about these ugly ducklings who finally graduated highschool, get breast implants and color their hair blonde. Now they’re out to confront their ex-bullies after 15 years. Yup, it’s all about convincing these random individuals that you’re worth it now. Throw some D’s on that.

This always begs the question: are you out to convince other people or yourself? Is it really necessary to be validated by some random guy after 15 years? It’s obvious that you never got over it that’s why you’re on a show that only unemployed people (like me) watch on weekdays. The key here is to try not to look TOO desperate.

Yup, this is how I feel about Raptor fans chanting “VC Sucks”. It’s obvious we haven’t gotten over it and we’re being petty. In fact, I think we’re letting him win by showing hi that he still bothers us. I think the best way to deflate his ego is to completely ignore him. Whenever he shoots a free throw, we should all just turn to our neighbours and talk about what we think of this season’s Stella McCartney fashion line or which Will Ferrell movie was the funniest one. That’s the same thing I do when I go to a strip club and the girl is butt. Boy, do they get mad.

So, Raptor fans – we need to stop yelling “VC sucks” and ignore him like everyone’s annoying cousin.

Or we can just yell “Momma’s boy”

I think that’s fine.
