On July 1st, the Canadian Chinese Youth Athletics Association (CCYAA) hosted the 16th Annual Overseas Chinese Basketball Tournament at the University of Toronto and Hoop Dome. With 20 teams participating from all over Toronto and visiting teams from Windsor, Montreal and Chicago, the tournament was filled with great competition.
In the semi finals of the Elite division, the Toronto Dragons were up against the Windsor Warriors (a repeat of last year’s final match) who were looking to defend the title. With less than 30 seconds and down by 3, the Windsor Warriors looked to one of their 3 point shooters to get a shot off to tie the game. Low and behold, Windsor Warriors were able to force overtime. Determined to take the game away from last year’s championship team, Windsor came out with a fire and dominated the overtime. In the other semi-finals, Toronto Kagers and Toronto Titans were battling it out. Toronto Titans dominated the game holding onto the lead throughout the entire ball game however Kagers managed to come out with a win from a basket from guard Louie Tseng with only 2 seconds on the clock.
In the championship, both teams looked ready to win the title. With Kagers looking to push the ball and Windsor looking to shoot; both teams looked like two great offensive basketball teams. With only a few seconds left on the clock, a tie game between the two teams and Windsor with possession. Windsor in bounds to their three point shooter, one dribble, shot and the basket goes in to win yet another buzzer beater a step inside the half court. The Windsor Warriors come away with their first ever Overseas championship.

In the recreational division, two Chicago teams were going head to head to win their first ever Overseas championship. With father and son playing on opposite teams, this match definitely meant something to both teams. Both teams coming out strong within the first half, but in the end the Chicago Dragons were no match for the Chicago Rocker. Congratulations to the Chicago Rocker!
